Wilhelm von Gloeden and Me
Artist Pacifico A. Palumbo created a series of paintings called "The Boys of Taormina." They are inspired by the original black & white photographs by Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden who was born on September 16, 1856 and died February 16, 1931. He was a German photographer who worked mainly in Taormina, Italy. He is mostly known for his pastoral nude studies of Sicilian boys, which usually featured props such as wreaths or amphoras suggesting a setting in Greece or Italy of antiquity.
From a modern standpoint his work is commendable due to his controlled use of lighting an well as the often elegant poses of his models.
Palumbo's addition of vivid color to his paintings brings Von Gloden's subjects and themes to life.
